Maternal and fetal outcomes following exposure to duloxetine in pregnancy: cohort study.
"On the basis of the evidence available to date, duloxetine is unlikely to be a major teratogen (agent that causes birth defects) but may be associated with an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage and a small increased risk of cardiac malformations. While continuing to monitor the safety of duloxetine as data accumulate over time, these potential small increases in risk of relatively uncommon outcomes must be weighed against the benefits of treating depression and pain during pregnancy in a given patient."

Far be it for me to say so, but if an individual is in a state of depression that requires medical intervention, this is not a time to consider pregnancy!! 

 

Clear accidents do happen so it is a worthwhile avenue of research, but there is always a cost that goes far beyond the amount of subjects that will be available for such a study. I am sure there will still be a minority of whom will suffer considerable side effects as a result of this combination of duloxetine and pregnancy....

Cymbalta is also frequently prescribed for chronic nerve pain, like for myself so not always depression. I don't know if my husband and I will ever try to have kids, but I want the option, which was actually a big reason I decided to get off that crap in the first place. And I guess now I'm glad I started the process when I did! I would have never predicted that 5 months down the road I'd still be dealing with some of the fallout. Yeesh.
