taking things
Heard about the earthquake in Oklahoma before I left...I thought it was only felt in Texas and some other state which I forgot.
Yes, Gail, it was House Fried Rice tonite!
I think I would like to come up where you are, Gail - what's going on in this country is too much
FH, somehow I have a strange vision of you playing with bunson burners and petri dishes - did you do that?

things are
Well Gail, Missouri is right next to Oklahoma so it was close by. I understand why Frank has the preparedness kit with the threat of earthquakes there. Here we are in the middle of tornado alley. Our area will see 20 or so tornados in a year. Storm shelter at my home and a solar/wind turbine system at my home as possible power outages have lasted as long as a week. We also get severe ice storms every few years. 1 to 3" of pure clear ice (freezing rain). Can't even go to the mail box (The mail doesn't get delivered anyway. lol). Everyone has some issue in their area. Liz has hurricanes, boas and Zika virus's etc. Just pick your poison. Liz, that earthquake was felt in 6 states. We don't have many faults here so that is real rare for us. By the way I would say Frank is around 1800 miles away. Just a stones throw. lol

Wow! I am, for sure, living in a privileged area. Thanks Fisherman for the info.
Living on edge, it seems. No wonder people suffer from piggy back anxiety!
I go into deep woods almost every day, no snakes, no alligators, just beauty.
Imagine if the little or big monsters were here, I would be house bound.

awesome place
You are certainly living in an awesome place, Gail (except for winters )
Thankfully all of the thousands of pythons are in the Everglades - not here!
Last week, one of the men on the alligator hunt caught one that was 14 feet long, and his head was 2 feet long and 1 1/2 feet across - yikes! Truly though, their meat is eaten and alligator tail is wonderful deep fried!

Hey Bobbi, have you seen this meteor crater somewhere in Arizona?
I collect meteorites and have one from Arizona, canyon Diablo, I think!
Near the desert? I would dream of walking through one, with a metal detector of course!
You guys are lucky to live there, I think!

meds alert
Well I have been learning a lot about the earthquakes in Oklahoma. Okl averaged 2 earthquakes a year above 3 on the R scale. before the year 2000. Since then they have escalated to high of 685 last year. NOW THATS A LOT. They are now the second most prolific earthquake state in the USA. The reason/ Fracking. No that is not some new dirty word! It is where hot steaming water is pumped down into rock layers soaked in oil. The oil liquefies and is pumped up. Once the oil is removed (it floats) the resultant mud is pumped back into the earth for disposal. This causes weak spots where the oil was pumped out and high pressure places where the wastewater was pumped back in. I think you can fill in the gaps from there.

bee's hive
Was able to jump on finally in the comfort of my own home. See all about our environment here. Fishinghat please don't study the earthquakes. They make me anxious just thinking about them...lol lol lol. Lived through enough of them in San Francisco and once when visiting in 1989 for the World Series. Thank God this subject was not brought up prior to me going there...lol lol lol. We have snow here, lots and lots, and lots, of snow in the winter, with the exception of last year....lol lol lol.
Hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day Weekend. I'm still three hours behind being back home and it's not fun. Everyone was tired today and I'm ready to keep going. Spend the day in the Adirondacks, and it was in the 80's up there.

Hive mind
Arizona is a beautiful state. When I was young I lived in the Pheonix area several times. Most people don't realize how beautiful the desert is for a few weeks in the spring when the cactus all are in bloom. It is really sad to see the changes that have occurred. The cactus wood, giant saguaro cactus, and more other species gone or near gone. I remember when the giant saguaro covered the hillsides.
