Nothing more

The alligators are basically lazy and come out of the water to bask in the sun.  Yes, there is a hunting season for them but can't remember when it is.  I like gator tail - chunks are breaded and fried and many restaurants down here serve them as appetizers. (Similar to chicken nuggets)  The most active they become is during mating season.  They actually move from lake to lake and can be vicious at this time.  Have heard of many small dogs being taken and eaten by them - sad, but true.

They can be as big as 10-12 feet long (or sometimes larger if they are older).  I think they are one of the few creatures (like cockroaches) that have survived from the time of dinosaurs!

There are at least 100 lakes in my county and all of them have alligators!

Of course, their hides are used for purses and shoes as well.

more alligators

we have more alligators than ever in florida!

TFL, thanks for the excedrin tip . i will try it. i've never used it but i do have friends who swear by it. i forgot all about it. a combo of asprin and ibuprofen, correct?

gail, i think the anxiety came first. creates the tension which in turn creates the headache. today the anxiety is pretty nominal, almost non existent. the headache is stronger, but once the muscle tension kicks in it can stay a lot longer than the anxiety.

we have alligators on our property - we have two ponds and two creeks. ours grow to about 4-5 feet and then wander off to larger bodies of water. never been a problem, but then i don't tempt fate either. florida has a season - just started, lasts about a month. you find gator on the menu all over here. the gator you can buy is farm raised. even though there is a sanctioned hunt, permits are by lottery and very limited. for some reason they are still treated as a protected species. you should always assume that every single body of fresh water has an alligator in it. people have been killed by swimming in lakes and rivers - never a good idea in florida unless it is a designated swimming area. a woman lost her arm in the wekiva river a few months ago. she was swimming in it. she was not in the "springs" area which is safe. largest gators caught in my area were 13 feet long.

but also

Rattlesnake, opossum, raccoon, deer, squirrel and my favorite wild meat.....rabbit. Also snapping turtle, soft shell turtle, crawfish, shrimp as I caught them out of the marsh (over a grill), same for blue crab and box crab. Love fresh caught spiney lobster and wild turkey. I also ate mule at a Texas bbq once. It was excellent. I eat wild Lamb's Quarters, ginger, Shepard's Purse, water cress and many more.  As you can see my culinary tastes are adventuresome!!  lol

You ladies are right about my place. Too much work. I have already gotten rid of 3 pears, a peach tree, 2 cherries, and half of my original garden. This winter I will trim back on my garden some more. Not enough time to do the things I want to do. I am getting too old for this stuff.

also paid

I also paid my yard guy today - mowed lawn and trimmed some bushes.  During the winter, when the grass isn't growing he is going to shape up my yard.  As I said before, it is really a high maintenance yard, and he is the first one I have found who really will do the work! :)

BTW, Fh... what is shepard's purse?

It is a small plant which looks like a dandelion on the bottom with a single flower stem in the middle with small white flowers. The leaves are delicious.

Together for

Quiet here today, amazing how much the word Confusing is found in posts.

Fisherman, you ever thought to write a book on your experiences? I would be a buyer for sure.

Liz, are you lost somewhere? Off to supper.

Reached the freezing point during the night! And had company for the night!!! My doc thinks that I could have sleep apnea. So I was branched to this tiny machine all night. Time will tell!

Are you having the urge to sleep too much, Gail?  I hope that all is OK.

Lowest temperature here at night is about 75 F !

Prayers for you, dear friend

You do

No, no urge to sleep at all. Some people are asymptomatic. She wonders if the night or wake up in incomfort could be caused by that.
And since my brother suffers from that, it could be genetic.

Glad that the nights are cold, less hot flashes.

I didn't know sleep apnea was genetic - I learn something here every day!  (From medical conditions to acorns!)

Did you have an adventure or coffee and cookies today, Gail?

It can be, and it can be something else.

No coffee, feeling like s*** and prefer to be alone. Stopped the cookies BTW.

Mass for you? Put me on the list again please.
