bite me!!!

Well, here I am. Busy as can be. I loaded and unloaded a ton of decorative gravel yesterday for an elderly man in my church. He is fixing up his landscaping in front of his house.

Today I picked up 5 5-gallon buckets of chestnuts. Shelled them and wound up with 10 lbs of nut meat. There won't be any trouble sleeping tonight.

You too?

We freeze it and eat on it all winter long. Just take out a bag and let it thaw in the fridge over night and the next day bake in the convection oven for about 30 minutes. Great snack.

I am all alone here today, so I will play by myself.

Liz, 10am Sunday the fourth, the helicopter will be there for Max. The pilot says its less expensive than the jet. He will land in the back yard.

Thanks, Gail - that should work out great!  He'll be ready...

Had acupuncture this afternoon and then had to pick up third med for Bentley - $59.55 :(  These meds are to prevent heart failure - sure hope to keep him around for a while :)

I wonder

I sure hope so. I wonder, is it because of the heart worm or something like that? Can't remember his age.

Acupuncture is doing you good? It is used to treat what?

I had five sessions before cymbalta by a real Chinese accuponcturer, bad experience. I had to bring a blanket to keep me warm and when all was over, he kept forgetting a few needles here and there. Anyway, it was for anxiety, and it did not help. After five sessions, he said to forget about it, it didn't work.

wonder why

Bentley was diagnosed with a heart murmur last month when I took him in for his yearly shots.  He is either 13 or 14 and it is due to his age.  The meds are to keep him from having heart failure - no heartworms.

The acupuncture is for pain - fibromyalgia and arthritis.  Alternating weeks of it and massage therapy are really doing the trick!  I have not been this pain free for almost 2 years! :D

Why not

Thanks Liz, will try to remember this. Heart murmur and maybe 14.

Wow, wonderful as the pain goes, will refer clients that have pain.
Usually the doc goes for cymbalta!

I am happy that you are almost pain free. Hey Fisherman!

that thing

Well I picked 60 gallons of chestnuts and washed and dried about 20 lbs of acorns. I watered my garden and destroyed several tent worm nests on my trees.

I wasn't bored!!!

Liz, the A still visits me, but it's much better most of the time. I will die with a part of it, I guess. For those days, I depend on benadryl and patience.

Fisherman, now, now, do you own a farm or a gigantic land?

20 pounds of acorns, do you eat them or sell them or whatever? Washing and drying? Why?

60 gallons of chestnut plus that big batch yesterday, you got me here!

What else besides acorns and chestnut? Truffles?????

Shed a light on this, you got me real curious! Yep, real curious.

A lot to explain here! Three chestnut trees and multi gallons of chestnut! My brain must be, is confused!

A pig around for the truffles?

Might as well go to bed, seriously these things interests me a lot!

The story

Well gals.....

I have three chestnut trees, 2 pears (already picked), 3 Jujube trees (ripe now), I also grow sweet potatoes (about 300 lbs/year)(we also eat the leaf stems), 2 types of lettuce, greens (we eat fresh and steam and freeze about 30 1-gallon bags each year), hot and sweet peppers (we pickle/preserve about 25 gallons each summer), edible chrysanthemum (sp?), cucumbers (we pickle/preserve about 25 gallons/year) (done for 2015) and sesame (leaves are edible, extras are cooked and frozen for the winter). This is all on a 2/3 acre lot!! I also have 73 forsythia in a hedge, a big batch of lilacs, 12 Redbud trees, 2 big Magnolia trees, a Dogwood, and a pine tree. Now you know why I am so busy!!!

The acorns are picked, washed, dried, shelled and dried again and turned into flour. You can make apache bread out of it.

I am tired of thinking about it. Good night all.

No words to describe this. Will look up translation for some words, I am flabbergasted. If course you are tired just thinking about it, I sure hope you enjoy all this work! My goodness...wow!

unbelievable headache

3 days of anxiety has given me an unbelievable headache

sorry to be a downer but this headache has not gone away in three days. that's when my anxiety started ratcheting up. first time in a month that anxiety has slowed me down. i know it is cyclic and i can accept that and i deal with it, but this time around the headache is outrageous. been on constant ibuprofen the whole time and regular heat pacs. my GP is on vacation but i doubt there's anything more he could do. definitely a tension headache, it starts in my neck and goes right up into the back and sides of my head.

fishinghat - sounds like you've got a great place. a lot of work but i bet its satisfying to have such a productive piece of property! i think its great to be self sufficient and produce your own food.

headache unacceptable

Sorry, brz - have you tried some of the name brands (Excedrin, etc.) that carry migraine headache tablets OTC?  They even have PM types.  Just a suggestion if you haven't tried them - good luck!

FH, I am so impressed with your gardening undertakings!  WoW!   That sure is a lot of work...   I would imagine it is good therapy for keeping the anxiety down :)   I didn't know about the acorn thing - thanks for the info!

My house is on 1/3 acre and my grandparents built it in 1957.  My grandfather was a landscape architect and the yard is beautiful but very high maintenance!  I have a yard person every week and he gives me a break on the cost. I also have a lot behind my house - also 1/3 acre but it is just a lot of nothing - on a slope and all in the sun!  I don't want to sell it because someone would build on it and ruin my view of the lake!

I would love to have a garden again but am afraid that I couldn't handle it. :(

Unacceptable misery

My, just reread FH's post. Can't get over it.

Brz, which is which, anxiety causing headache or vice versa? At least you know that it is cyclic and won't go on vitam eternam.

Liz, another wow here, you sure seem to have a nice spot there. A view on the lake, Max must love it. Any swimming in there or is it infested with crocodiles or whatever?

misery again

Yes, Gail - Max loves the lake and walks it at least 3 days a week.  There is a sidewalk all around it - about a mile.  Unfortunately all the lakes down here have alligators and that's why Max has his own small pool here! :)

Again, really?

Those beasts, don't they come out of the water and ramp around?
You really see them? Is it edible? Hunting season for it?

Max is very cherished.

really nothing

Yep those critters get up and walk around. I don't know about Florida but many southern states have seasons on 'gators. When I was in Louisiana for grad school I got the privilege to go on a few hunts. They taste like a cross between chicken and rattlesnake. Tolerable.
