bite me!!!
Well, here I am. Busy as can be. I loaded and unloaded a ton of decorative gravel yesterday for an elderly man in my church. He is fixing up his landscaping in front of his house.
Today I picked up 5 5-gallon buckets of chestnuts. Shelled them and wound up with 10 lbs of nut meat. There won't be any trouble sleeping tonight.

wonder why
Bentley was diagnosed with a heart murmur last month when I took him in for his yearly shots. He is either 13 or 14 and it is due to his age. The meds are to keep him from having heart failure - no heartworms.
The acupuncture is for pain - fibromyalgia and arthritis. Alternating weeks of it and massage therapy are really doing the trick! I have not been this pain free for almost 2 years!

The story
Well gals.....
I have three chestnut trees, 2 pears (already picked), 3 Jujube trees (ripe now), I also grow sweet potatoes (about 300 lbs/year)(we also eat the leaf stems), 2 types of lettuce, greens (we eat fresh and steam and freeze about 30 1-gallon bags each year), hot and sweet peppers (we pickle/preserve about 25 gallons each summer), edible chrysanthemum (sp?), cucumbers (we pickle/preserve about 25 gallons/year) (done for 2015) and sesame (leaves are edible, extras are cooked and frozen for the winter). This is all on a 2/3 acre lot!! I also have 73 forsythia in a hedge, a big batch of lilacs, 12 Redbud trees, 2 big Magnolia trees, a Dogwood, and a pine tree. Now you know why I am so busy!!!
The acorns are picked, washed, dried, shelled and dried again and turned into flour. You can make apache bread out of it.
I am tired of thinking about it. Good night all.

unbelievable headache
3 days of anxiety has given me an unbelievable headache
sorry to be a downer but this headache has not gone away in three days. that's when my anxiety started ratcheting up. first time in a month that anxiety has slowed me down. i know it is cyclic and i can accept that and i deal with it, but this time around the headache is outrageous. been on constant ibuprofen the whole time and regular heat pacs. my GP is on vacation but i doubt there's anything more he could do. definitely a tension headache, it starts in my neck and goes right up into the back and sides of my head.
fishinghat - sounds like you've got a great place. a lot of work but i bet its satisfying to have such a productive piece of property! i think its great to be self sufficient and produce your own food.

headache unacceptable
Sorry, brz - have you tried some of the name brands (Excedrin, etc.) that carry migraine headache tablets OTC? They even have PM types. Just a suggestion if you haven't tried them - good luck!
FH, I am so impressed with your gardening undertakings! WoW! That sure is a lot of work... I would imagine it is good therapy for keeping the anxiety down I didn't know about the acorn thing - thanks for the info!
My house is on 1/3 acre and my grandparents built it in 1957. My grandfather was a landscape architect and the yard is beautiful but very high maintenance! I have a yard person every week and he gives me a break on the cost. I also have a lot behind my house - also 1/3 acre but it is just a lot of nothing - on a slope and all in the sun! I don't want to sell it because someone would build on it and ruin my view of the lake!
I would love to have a garden again but am afraid that I couldn't handle it.

really nothing
Yep those critters get up and walk around. I don't know about Florida but many southern states have seasons on 'gators. When I was in Louisiana for grad school I got the privilege to go on a few hunts. They taste like a cross between chicken and rattlesnake. Tolerable.
