Thanks FH. I made friend with three ants that live on my balcony. I know, I am crazy, but I don't mind.
They climb on me and I talk to them. Yep, sounds nuts. Anyway, tomorrow they come to paint my balcony so I cleaned up. I used a broom
and by accident I sent one diving from the fourth floor. Just hope she or he manages to get back up!

Too acidic for my fine tastes.

1 cup day-old white ants (these are large termites, in the winged stage)
½ cup water
2 tbs. margarine
salt to taste
Directions
Print Recipe
1. Clean ants by removing wings and any foreign matter.
2. Place insects in salted water and boil over high heat until water has evaporated.
3. Reduce heat and add margarine.

too funny
that reminds me of a whacky cousin of mine who was in the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone ages ago ... one year at Thanksgiving, shortly after he came home, he arrived a our big family dinner with a lovely covered china platter which contained his contribution ... after the turkey had been carved and all the fixins' served out ... into the dining room he walked, bearing the covered dish ... placed it down ceremoniously on the table, gave a lovely speech about how happy he was to be home and said that he'd prepared a traditional African dish to share with us in honor of the holiday and his homecoming ....
With a grand gesture, he lifted the cover off the platter .... and there, piled gloriously high, was a steaming pile of .....
roasted grasshoppers ....

termites ... yech ... had to do battle with those little monsters when I lived in a cabin in West Virginia for a year ... my dopey ex-husband had put the huge woodpile right up next to the cabin ... the wood pile was termite infested, so I had the pleasure of moving, all by myself, 4-5 cords of wood far enough away to minimize their access to the cabin ... fun times

"Termites are consumed by many different cultures around the world, and in Africa, the alates are an important factor in the diets of native populations.[59] Tribes have different methods and ways of collecting or cultivate insects, and sometimes tribes will collect soldiers from several species.[59] Queens are harder to acquire, but queens are regarded as a delicacy if they are able to be collected.[60] Termite alates are high in nutrition levels, due to the fact they have adequate levels of fat and protein and are also regarded as pleasant in taste, having a nut-like flavour after they are cooked.[59]
Alates are collected when the rainy season begins. During nuptial flight, they can be typically seen around lights as they are attracted to them, and so nets are set up on lamps and are later collected. The wings are shed and a technique that is similar to winnowing is performed. The best result comes when they are roasted in a gentle fashion on a hot plate or fried until they show signs of being crisp; oil is not required as their bodies usually contain sufficient amounts of oil. Termites are typically eaten if livestock is lean and tribal crops have not yet developed or produced any food, or if food stock from previous growing seasons is limited.[59]
In Thai cuisine termites are known as Maeng Mao (แมลงเม่า) and are especially appreciated in Isan.[61]
Termites are consumed in other countries and continents, although this is usually limited to local or tribal areas in Asia and North and South America in comparison to its consumption in Africa. In Australia, indigenous Australians communities are aware termites are edible, but are not consumed, even if they are facing harsh times. There are limited sources as to why they show limited interest to the consumption of the alates, workers and soldier termites.[59][60] Termites contribute to human nutrition via consumption of the soil, commonly known as geophagy.[62] Termitaria (termite mounds) are the main sources of soil consumption in multiple countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.[63][64][65][66]"

Recipes for Termites
Not only can termites be very tasty but there is also a great deal of satisfaction to be gained by eating creatures which have themselves been trying to literally eat you out of house and home.
Termites LeRoux
Ingredients
One-half cup termites, winnowed until wingless.
One large pinch salt
Two pinches black pepper
One pinch curry powder
Place termites and seasonings in 10 inch frying pan. Turn the heat on low and stir slowly. Termites cook in their own body fat. When they’re golden brown and crunching, they’re ready for munching.
Baked Termites
One cup termites, winnowed
Salt, pepper, basil to taste
Spread termites on medium-sized baking tray. Place in preheated oven at 200 degrees for ten minutes.
Boiled Termites
One cup termites, winnowed
One half cup water
2 tablespoons butter
Boil termites in water with a pinch of salt. As water boils off, add the butter. Simmer the mixture for a few minutes until crispy. Salt to taste and eat.

I guess I could eat anything fried, that is if I don't know what it is and if my eyes are closed.
I went to Spain many times and they served those tiny white fishes, with black eyes. People ordered bowls of it. Just to see those black eyes and a white body made me sick. The last time I went, I did taste them, yummy! So good, fried of course.

Our serotonin levels must be totally whacked
-----
On a serious note ... the forum seems very quiet ... are fewer folks arriving here for help these days?

nightmare, sheesh!
Those recipes were making my stomach churn! Insects are not one of my favorite things and they are definitely in droves down here!
Had massage this afternoon and could hardly walk afterwards. Really messed up my back with that fall the other nite - better now.

ending soon
No bruises and head OK (as well as can be expected! ) but the muscles sure knotted up - with the fibro, they are definitely worse than usual. Acupuncture tomorrow so pain should be ending soon!

over troubled
Liz-- oh dear, sorry to hear about your fall.
All the best my friend.
Sail on silvergirl
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine,
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

time flies
My project for today is to borrow the "dolly" from the store in my building and go to the mailroom to pick up 160 pounds of kitty litter, wheel it back to my apartment, and stack it in my storage closet ... can't beat Walmart sale prices ... but my apartment neighbors think I'm nuts ... and I am ...

Liz, glad that you feel better today.
FN, so nice to see you back. I am nuts, you are nuts, we are nuts. The good thing is we don't mind if the others think so too!

act naturally
They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
We'll make the film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally
From Act Naturally by Johnny Russell and Voni Morrison, 1963.
Sung by Buck Owens and later covered by The Beatles (Ringo Starr).

Hello Trouble (Buck Owens)
Woke up this morning
Happy as could be
Looked out my window
And what did I see?
A comin' up my sidewalk
Just as plain as day
A well a here come trouble that I never thought I'd see
When you went away
Hello trouble, come on in
You talk about heartaches
Where'n the world ya been?
I ain't had the miseries
Since you been gone
Hello trouble, trouble, trouble
Welcome home
We'll make a pot of coffee
And you can rest your shoes
A you can tell me them sweet lies
And I'll listen to you
For I'm just a little part of
Of the life you've lived
But I'd rather have a little bit of trouble
Than to never know the love you give
Hello trouble, come on in
You talk about heartaches
Where'n the world ya been?
I ain't had the miseries
Since you been gone
Hello trouble, trouble, trouble
Welcome home
