Does anyone know of a 'dose down' 10% from 30mg Cymbalta chart that might be floating around? Like, days 1-3, remove 2 beads. Days 4-6, remove 4 beads,,,,

I just saw one over on SurvivingAntidepressants.com ... but I think it was for Effexor ... I'm heading back over there to try to find it.

I'll post it here and also in the "bead counting-how to do it" thread.

SO many thanks! I'll poke around the internet, also. Hate to reinvent the wheel!

Nope, what I saw was a chart for a different anti-d, and AltoStrata and other forum members vetoed it, as being way too fast ... they are for a very very very slow taper of any of these meds ... many members talk about taking a year or more ...

You'll see the "go slow talk" if you read those links on Cymbalta tapering, bead counting, and Effexor tapering (it's got beads, like crapalta).

As for what you mention in your post, my gut reaction is that it's way too fast ... but I've got to defer to our own Cymbalta bead counters. As you know, I'm a crapalta crash-test dummy ...

I think you're right, FN! I did some math here, and this is really a 5% taper. Would you be willing to have a look at my math here? It sounds like taking a few out and staying at that for a few days is the way to go?

To be dosed down 5% by the end of month 1:

There are ~270 beads in the 30mg Cymbalta brand capsule. 9 beads = 1mg

5% of 30mg is 28.5mg.

1.5 mg = 13 beads

Day

  1        remove 3 beads

  2        remove 4 beads

  3        remove 4 beads

  4        remove 4 beads

  5        remove 5 beads

  6        remove 5 beads

  7        remove 5 beads

  8        remove 6 beads

  9        remove 6 beads

10        remove 6 beads

11        remove 7 beads

12        remove 7 beads

13        remove 7 beads

14        remove 8 beads

15        remove 8 beads

16        remove 8 beads

17        remove 9 beads

18        remove 9 beads

19        remove 9 beads

20        remove 10 beads

21        remove 10 beads

22        remove 10 beads

23        remove 11 beads

24        remove 11 beads

25        remove 11 beads

26        remove 12 beads

17        remove 12 beads

18        remove 11 beads

19        remove 13 beads

30        remove 13 beads

31        remove 13 beads

oy, jealbrecht .... I'm dangerous when it comes to math .... I'll be happy to try, but not until tomorrow morning, after a night's sleep and some seriously strong coffee ... ;)

Also, I propose that you post this chart over in the "bead counting--how to do it" thread ... where more of our experienced bead counters are likely to see it?

HAhahaha...I was waiting for your reply since you have mentioned being 'math challenged!' JB, I am impressed with your chart...that would be so helpful if you could repost it under the 'Bead Counting' thread as I've seen this question come up frequently about the 5% down dosing...good job;). I used the 'eyeball bead counting method' which is basically a roller coaster of cold turkey...to be sure, it just about killed me with the onslaught of severe withdrawal:(.

Cym ... that's how I do math ... I "eyeball it" ... the results are seldom accurate, but always interesting :D

Just checked this chart....it seems like there might be an error on day 18....states to remove 11 beads,,,, should it read 12?

Looks like you calculated correctly for 5% taper over a month...on day 30 or 31 you would be removing 13 beads...5 5 of 270 = 13.5....looks good to me....math is correct with exception for day 18....think this could be a typo error....it's ok...I'm pretty good in math....you did great Jeal.....

remember as a kid in school we thought that math word problems had nothing to do with real life? like "a train leaves chicago going 55 mph... "

the bead counting reduction at 5%  would be a REAL LIFE "word problem" on a math test!

Obviously, proof reading is not my strong suit! Here's the corrected version:

Bead counting dose down for Cymbalta from 30mg brand capsules

To be dosed down 5% by the end of month 1:

There are ~270 beads in the 30mg Cymbalta brand capsule. 9 beads = 1mg

5% of 30mg is 28.5mg.

1.5 mg = 13 beads

Day

  1        remove 3 beads

  2        remove 4 beads

  3        remove 4 beads

  4        remove 4 beads

  5        remove 5 beads

  6        remove 5 beads

  7        remove 5 beads

  8        remove 6 beads

  9        remove 6 beads

10        remove 6 beads

11        remove 7 beads

12        remove 7 beads

13        remove 7 beads

14        remove 8 beads

15        remove 8 beads

16        remove 8 beads

17        remove 9 beads

18        remove 9 beads

19        remove 9 beads

20        remove 10 beads

21        remove 10 beads

22        remove 10 beads

23        remove 11 beads

24        remove 11 beads

25        remove 11 beads

26        remove 12 beads

27        remove 12 beads

28        remove 11 beads

29        remove 13 beads

30        remove 13 beads

31        remove 13 beads

Where can I find the 'bead counting - how to do it' thread? I looked under the weaning thread, but didn't see it.

There are bead counting directions here, very good one by thismoment. I do not know its location but someone will be on here shortly and post a link. Essentially you count the number of beads in you capsule and reduce that by about 1% a day, slowing down if things get worse. This gives a person a fine control on their withdrawal.

Welcome socaler!

You have come to the right place for caring, supportive help!  I'm sorry I am unable to give you a link as I am not a techy type, but if you type in Bead Counting Chart in the Search Box in the upper right of the page, you will find info - at this point you may have to wade through some stuff, but I know that it is there!

Please hang in there - we do have folks who can give you a link - the only one I can actually give you by a cut and paste is for coming off 60mg.  Are you on the brand or generic?  It makes a difference in the bead counting!

Liz

Is your 20 mg generic or brand name (Eli Lilly)?

Pull a capsule apart and carefully count the beads- how many?

Thanks
