To offer support to others who are suffering as I am!

Posted 16 May 2014 - 09:41 AM

Hi everyone. I just want to share some things that I do believe have helped ease some of this wretched withdrawal. Not all things will help everyone and if you try something please be willing to give it some time.

Activated charcoal capsules- (Solaray brand name 280 mg I take 3 capsules twice a day. Lots of water or fluids, it is highly absorbable so it needs to be taken 2 hrs b4 or after other meds, vits etc. It helps to pull the poison from yours system. It may cause diarrhea or constipation hence another reason to boost fluids. Even though diarrhea is uncomfortable, do not take something to stop it as it is necessary to flush this poison out of your system. You can adjust amount based on how you feel.

I use flaxseed for omegas (Bob's Red Mill). Fish oil has also been recommended but I cannot use oils. The flaxseed fills your gut so the nausea seems to decrease and it can help regulate diarrhea/ constipation associated with withdrawal. I use 2 tablespoons per day added to a smoothie or anything that you can tolerate orally. I am slowly taking in solids but the smoothies are still my mainstay. Flaxseed has protein too.

Increase protein intake to help body to heal. Protein is very big in helping to overcome any illness. Can be added as a powder to a smoothie or other liquid.

L-theanine: (puritan's pride) 200 mg capsules 2- 3/ day. I have been taking this prior to cymbalta detox. It helped me reduce my dosage of clonazepam. Within 20-30 mins I feel more calm. I do believe it is helping keep the anxiety in check.

L- tyrosine ( NOW brand) a neurostransmitter to help mental alertness and helps support glands especially the thyroid. I take 750 mg capsule 2x's/day

I also use valerian root (from puritan's pride) 450 mg capsules 1 capsule late afternoon and 1 before bed. This is considered nature's valium and though it does not make me drowsy I do feel it is helping with anxiety. I missed the late afternoon dose yesterday and had one hell of a panic attack. I won't do that again.

If you have ANY questions please reach out to me. I want to help. Thanks

Jillybean ;)

A caution for those who use or are considering using valerian root. It greatly slows down the bodies ability to process and eliminate benzos. This allows the benzos to build to very high values in the body. Caution should be used when taking the two at the same time.

Ditto to the valerian caution.....I tried it as tea....wasn't using benzos, but it whacked me out somehow....a tip I got from Fishinghat is to start whatever it is you're trying....amino, herb, etc....in very small amounts/does....and work up gradually....

For protein I used whey powder...chocolate flavor....which reminds me, I ran out and stopped using it and should get more....

Instead of valerian, I use damiana tea...from the fresh herb.....but a caution there....it can lower blood pressure, esp. Systolic....that's a benefit for me, but not if you already run low or take meds for bp.....

Essentially I am here for support and real information. On a journey away from this medication and towards a mindful, present state of being. My goal is to find courage, my hope to help someone along the way. Change.

I'm a smoothie fan too, Jellybean. It's about the only way I get protein. The flax is an awesome idea --I personally have to limit it as it causes GI turmoil...my gut is a little sensitive I suppose. Chia seed (chrushed) works a little better for me. I don't know why...

Hi Ladys

I just googled it now. What are you hoping it will do?

"Some websites advertise supplements that increase glutathione, a liver detoxifier, as an antidote.  SAM-e increases glutathione, and has not proven to be particularly helpful.  SAM-e also increases neurotransmitter synthesis, and even when taken with L-tryptophan, does not seem to make much difference."
