sounds like an awesome day carleeta!

i just got back from our local fruit and veggie stand as well! cukes, plus zukes, peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and onions for a moroccan stew!

it sounds so awesome up there. i know that ny state is moving into its primo season. i envy you! today kinda felt like fall its late august, school buses are running, the sun sits lower in the sky, the air today was a bit drier, kinda breezy and ONLY 91 degrees! this time of year the only reason i go outside is to get in the (air conditioned) car to go somewhere or to mow the lawn and kill weeds (stuff NEVER stops growing here).

braghof.....Sounds great with the veggies you purchased today.  The Moroccan stew sounds fabulous.  I don't know how to make any stew...lol lol lol....Envy everyone who does.....Italians never stewed anything....lol lol lol.   Except the fresh tomatoes in the garden, and that meant you were making sauce....lol lol lol.   I wish I learned how to make stews...lol lol .  Put everything in a pot and let it cook....oh sounds wonderful.  Nope, we have about a seven step process for everything we make...lol lol lol.  I guess that's why you hear Italians are always in the kitchen cooking...lol lol lol.  I did attempt to make pulled pork once in my versa cooker (crock pot) and then again I was checking it every so many minutes...lol lol lol...of course it didn't come out right because you are not supposed to open the lid often...lol lol lol.  Some habits I can't change...lol lol.  I tend to get apprehensive when I make something new and it states to cover and cook for so many times without stirring...Nope, I have to open the cover and check everything and stir it around...lol lol lol.  Sometimes I even laugh at the way we cook.  We literally are In the kitchen for 2 hours or more never leaving it because everthing has to be stirred, tossed, flipped over, and checked.  I guess that's why we cook 4 different things at once because you happen to be in the kitchen anyway....lol lol lol.   I would seriously like someday to put everything in a pot cover it and time it, and leave the house while it's cooking.  Then I'd be in therapy thinking there are something wrong with me....lol lol lol.  Oh well, making a positively cute joke about one of my habits.........:)

moroccan stew that i make is basically throwing everything in the pot/sauce pan and cooking it down - like indian food - it also calls for chick peas and coriander and cinnamon. then you pour it over couscous (spell check wants me to write cows cows) or quinoa, and top it off with a sauce made from olive oil,  red peppers, cumin and of course, fresh minced garlic. it calls for one clove. i put in almost a bulb ;-)

i think as an italian you would love to make it. needs a LOT of tasting along the way! i am really big on quality control ;-)

oh my goodness, that sounds delicious. Oh I might make something I need to check on often..lol lol lol.   I might just have you type out that recipe for me and try it...The topping sauce sounds great.  I never believe any receipe that calls for a glove of garlic..lol lol lol.   I too have to taste as fresh garlic, freshly picked with the oils still in it are the only ones I may agree need a clove...lol lol lol.  And then again, if it's that fresh it is purple.  Right now my garlic on the rope is purple, as the season progresses it will dry out and be white.  The rope should last about a year....yipeeeeee.  Last year I was too late buying it and they were all gone, so I had to rely on the produce section of the grocery store.  What a pain that was...lol lol lol

It's a funny cloudy day outside and sort of blahhh...lol lol...getting prettied up should do it...lol lol lol...

Carleeta

Glad you are having a Positive Event (great thread, by the way!)

It's well-known that the better you dress (look in general), the better you are treated. And this goes for most things, not just getting seated at restaurants and being upgraded to First Class on an airline when it's oversold in the back.

We feel better when we look better. In 19th Century Africa (and elsewhere) the British would "dress" for dinner in the wilderness. It maintained consistency and imposed a kind of normalcy and order upon the chaos of the situation. It's dignity: everything you do affects the way you view yourself, and the way you view yourself determines the quality with which you will act. All actions are dominos.

Self Esteem is related, and it might be defined as your reputation with yourself. Can I trust myself? You become what you pay attention to; you become what you practice.

Carleeta, you brighten up my cloudy day; thank you, and take care dear.

Thismoment.....What a lovely background on getting dressed for dinner in the wilderness, how ones views themselves, all the way up to self esteem.  It's all so true too.  It's part of taking care of who I am and knowing and deserving to be taken care of....lol lol lol.  Years ago I would do my own nails, toes, hair color, and etc. on a regular basis...Now I deserve to preserve myself.... I let others do it for me for the right price...lol lol lol lol...

Funny thing is you are so right on how you are treated when everything about one is intact and on..... You do get treated differently and special,  that's the life we deserve because we are special and when we take time to do those special things for ourselves.....we definitely get noticed.....

Glad I could brighten up your cloudy day.  You do the same for me......

I know you feel great after the mani and pedi!!  I had mine on Friday and it certainly does lift the spirits!  Today was my massage and I was so relaxed afterward but unfortunately had to go to the grocery store :(

That and the strange way I have been feeling was kind of a downer to my positive...

Hello all, just checking in to share my positives (a lot!), and then toddle off to read a bit and get to bed early ...

Just since this Monday, I've had responses to 3 job apps ...

First one ...a FT position as a librarian with the Government Printing Office ... upside, really interesting work ... downside, 40 hr work week, 8 am to 4 pm, and crappy (crapalta?) pay ... $14 or 15 per hr (OMG!) ... All the paperwork filed, and have to pass a full background check (criminal and financial ... I'll flunk the financial, I'm sure!) ... I'll actually be relieved if I flunk the background check, not sure I could handle these work hours and at such low pay ...

also, interview next Wednesday -- a PT librarian position with another DC education association like my last job ... upside, great hours, great location, no background check, and much better pay ... would earn as much a month part time as full time with the GPO ... downside, work not quite as interesting ... but hey, do I care? No!

and, interview tomorrow -- a PT position as a fundraising/development assistant with a small Jewish charity in suburban Maryland ... upside ..I don't know yet, except they sound like awfully nice/pleasant/good folks to work for (at least based on our phone conversations) ...don't know the hours or the pay ... but I bet it's more than the GPO ... and I bet there's no background/financial check ...

So, now it's time for me to load up on my anxiety meds, have a cup of herb tea, and call it a day ... keep your fingers crossed for me, please ... I'll report in tomorrow evening :)

That and the strange way I have been feeling was kind of a downer to my positive...

Your post was positive...although I take it you don't like the grocery store...lol lol lol.  Me on the other hand love to get out and get to the grocery store.  It calms me down as I walk through the store and I know I am releasing built up anxiety... Of course there are time I don't like shopping (especially when I'm stressed or holiday time).  My downfall at the grocery store is the checkout line....lol lol lol.  I know everyone in there is in a hurry.  this used to bother me as I tried to hurry for others.  Then one day I said to myself "Self, what are you rushing for?  So what if you take your time in the line".  That was that...lol lol lol.

I'm so happy you had your pedi and mani and a massage to boot.   Yipeeeeeee....... So happy you find relief in those special moments.....yipeeeeee again.....

Carleeta.....

I don't mind the grocery store normally, but after the massage I am so relaxed that I just want to go home and sometimes even take a nap!

I have osteoarthritis in my left foot and a walk through the grocery store usually has me limping by the time I leave!  It is getting embarrassing with my walking as I have to get a wheelchair at the airport.  I cannot walk as far as the gates :(

This has been quite a week -- tomorrow I get my hair done (you know, color and all that stuff!) so at least I will be able to sit!! :D

After that, it is my turn to stop at the farm stand! :)

Oh TryinginFl...lol lol   I apologize for miss reading the post.  It's understandable why you didn't want to go to the grocery store, after a wonderful massage.  Awee, it's hard with the osteoarthritis, especially in your left foot..  Why not take the wheelchair....hmmmmmm.... I know what you mean about the wheelchair.. and how embarrassing you do feel.  After all you traveled alone and truthfully it's no picnic with the walk and the confusion with everyone walking a fast pace because they know where they are going..

Yipeeeeeeee, tomorrow you are off to your hair stylist.... That's going to make you feel even better.

Tomorrow, I'm off for my first physical therapy session, or at least it's the evaluation.  I'm hoping all goes well and I don't need the shot in my joint.  Either way, tomorrow is finally here and I'm very anxious about this, although I am still going.  I won't be driving because two of my cousins have appointments in the same place and we are all going together.....

hugs to you.....

Good luck with the physical therapy, Carleeta!  Wonderful that you will have your cousins there as well - great planning!  Hope you don't need the shot, but you'll make it - either way!  I have confidence in you! :)

It will be a good day!

thank your TryinginFl.  I'm going to work my hardest on the pt....and hopefully it all does work and no further shot...lol lol lol.  I know I will make it either way, although if I get this shot, my youngest niece will take me there and then take me to her home in the mountains so she could watch me afterwards.... I know it will hurt and I'll be numb a while, although if I do need this shot, I am instructed to not go alone or they will not do it...lol lol lol.  Oh boy, just that written on paper scares me...lol lol lol. Although, I will do it.  I have already not taken any Tylenol ,aspirin, and ibuprofen products, which has been recommened 7 days prior to this shot.. just in case.

Other than that, tomorrow will be here soon and I have my good sneakers all set...lol lol lol for pt......lol lol lol...

FN, sounds like some great oppty's we're rooting for ya! lots of time the financial (credit) check is a formality, if you don't have access to funds of any type, its usually not a biggie. however, i have two friends who worked as financial advisors until they each had to file for bankruptcy. time for a new career! as for criminal, they don't look back more than 7 years ;-) well, i guess if its the feds, they already know everything anyway!

TFL and Carleeta, you go girls, gettin' all purtied up 'n' stuff! since i quit my job its been DIY beauty for me!

TryinginFl, if the pt works, I won't have to take the shot in two weeks.  I will know after my sessions of pt next week, and the exercises I have to do three times a day.   Thank you for thinking of me....:)

Carleeta, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the PT to be successful! Do you have some of those hot packs at home so you can use them in between therapy sessions?

Also, is your PT guy young and cute? I think that'd be veeerrry therapeutic as well ! ;)

I've got a zillion different sizes of the packs that are filled with silicon pea shaped thingys ... they can be heated in the microwave and/or chilled in the freezer ... one of them is a wonderful shoulder cover/collar ... and the large rectangle sizes work well on the back ... in the first few months of withdrawal, I'd heat them up ... put the shoulder collar on, and place all the rectangle packs on my bed right where my back is when I lie down ... then,, lie flat on my back and just sink into them and fall asleep ... gee, I think I'm going to do that again sometime soon ... mmmmm ...

I found 'em at my local CVS ... I bought every one of the rectangle ones they had on the shelves, plus the shoulder collar ... they also sell them in medical supply stores ... and, I think, Target ....and, of course, you can get them through Amazon.com ... they were a bit pricey at the CVS, but I was desperate ... had dragged myself off my death bed and took a cab the 4 blocks to the CVS just to buy them ...

also, don't forget the good ol' standbys ... heating pads and hot water bottles ... also, did you know you can heat a moist/damp towel in the microwave? .... ummm .... not the bath size towel ... unless you've got a massive micro, just the hand towel and wash cloth sizes ... I used those before I got the gel packs ... but very messy ....

I have made my own microwave heating pads. If you know how to sew or know someone who sews, you can make your own. I have filled them with dry rice or beans. You can also add some dried lavender. The lavender scent is calming to some people. If you fill it with dried food, you will need to throw them away after a while because you don't want to attract bugs.

ReneeRJ, thank you for this idea.  I don't sew and I honestly don't know anyone who does any longer, although you did give me a good idea.  I'll see if I can do something with the dried rice.....hmmmmmm.   really great idea.......thank you again....

I've positively done my exercises twice so far today....One more time to go.  I'm positively cooking all day today for this weekend's  celebration up in the mountains starting tomorrow.  About 20 people are going to be there and stay till Monday.  Picked almost the last of my basil for this year and once I've used it up in the weekend dishes. So far I've fried up some eggplant, fried zucchini ,  sautéed beans with olive oil and bread crumbs, cut up the provolone, prepared Italian olives, and now I'm making a fresh pot of tomato sauce for the rest of the dishes....lol lol lol.  It's much work, although it keeps me busy and it positively makes me happy.....yipeeeee
