Hope for people that have been on Cymbalta for a year.

Reading all the craziness online was scaring me and causing extra needless panic. Thus the reason for my writing this.

I was lucky enough to realize Cymbalta was making me worse and not helping with what it was assigned for. Anxiety.

My weening after a year was 60mg for 1 month

30mg for 4weeks

20mg for 4 weeks then stopped

I didn't count beads it was too tedious.

What worked for me was

Dayquil liquid for headaches and brain zaps.

Nyquil for evening headaches.

Pepto Bismol liquid for stomach upset.

Tylenol and Advil did nothing for headaches for me.

Serious symptoms lasted 4 days. And then slowly faded out the rest of the week.

It has now been 4 weeks off of Cymbalta and it does get easier each day.

I have two theories

1)The longer you are on Cymbalta the longer and harder your symptoms might be for you?

2) Fish oil for Brain Zaps in my case made ME sicker I was taking one 1400 mg everyday (1000 mg omega 3). For people that have weened off already say they are feeling worse as the days go by, might be getting sick from an Aid.

Try one or two Aids at a time to pinpoint what's making you sick..

Good luck it WILL get better.

Hi Maginnis...

Woh MASSIVE font! Should help you Hat, must be getting more difficult to read with your passing years :D

Thank you for sharing your experiences - they are always useful for other members and for us to know so we can get an idea of averages of what works for who.

Regarding your points;

1) This is a good general rule of thumb, neurologically speaking, the synapses can only change so far to suit the pills, and then your brain will adapt, so some might argue that whether it is 5 years or 50 years, the result would be the same. This can for sure be the case in the first 12 months, but the truth is that this is a matter of subjectivity. We do not know how brain plasticity interacts with the continued consumption of these drugs, regarding the deviation from what would be the status quo when off the drugs.

You could say, the long someone does not walk, the harder it would become as the muscles degrade. A similar compromise might be the case evidencing your point, but the simple fact is we simply do not know as we have seen people here come cold turkey off Cymbalta after taking them for 5-6 years and have the sniffles and back to work within the week... lucky sods!!

2) Sorry to hear this. Your issue here may be related to GI issues rather than the neurological if they result in nausea. What dose were you taking that caused this sickness?

Uhhh, IUN, his post appears as normal font on my computer.   :D

Thanks so much for your post McGinnis. It was interesting that much of what helped you matches our ebook recommendations. As far as Omega 3 is concerned most members have mentioned it helped with the brain zaps but for myself I agree with your assessment. I simply can't take it without getting sicker. Really the only thing I find outstanding in your post si the length of time to recover. So fast but having said that I know of 3 cases within my family and in-laws that all quit cold-turkey after using it from 5 to 8 years and had no withdrawal. I wish I knew why some have so little withdrawal and others such a long one.

I would make one add on comment. You mentioned "Dayquil liquid for headaches and brain zaps."

This can be true but 2 things to note there are several forms of Dayquil and each has its own formula. Some help but it seems that others don't. Also a particular Dayquil product in the USA may be sold under the same name overseas but have totally different ingredients. The ebook has more information on this.

Just extending on Hat's point...

The active ingredients in the 'quil is acetaminophen, paracetamol and phenylephrine.

Closest equivalent in the UK would be Lemsip Cold and Flu Capsules which contain acetaminophen and paracetal or,
Lemsip Max All in One which has both paracetamol and phenylephrine
